Encaustic Paintings

Encaustic is an ancient painting technique using heat with pigment, beeswax and damar resin.  Working from light to dark, I melt layer upon layer of pigmented wax on gessoed panel.

Oil Paintings

1985 -1991

My large alla prima oil paintings are heavily impastoed with much of the mixing done on canvas with sticks.

I developed this way of working to imbue paintings with the passion I feel at the power of light emanating through structures.

Plasma Sculpture

I have designed many three dimensional uranium and borosilicate glass forms to capture the delicate, active glow of the strange and beautiful ionized gas.

Plasma is one of four fundamental states of matter.

Neon Sculpture

Working with neon has been an engineering as well as an aesthetic challenge.

I loved being able to shape the glow of this many colored light form by combining back glow and translucent materials, black light and paint.

Drawings

Way before I ever thought of painting or color, drawing the human body with graphite on paper or vellum was my greatest challenge & pleasure.

Early Paintings

After years of drawing, someone said,
”Why don’t you try painting?”

So I did, and never looked back.

I “saw” paintings everywhere ~.sinks  dirty dishes, piles of laundry, my Kirby vacuum.
